SCVeamer 1.5 — English edition
A Beamer-style HTML slide editor for visualizing several complex variables
2026-11-06

VERSION 1.5 - NEW FEATURES
Local MP4 videos and HTTPS web pages can now be included in a presentation.
Section dividers use the new default design, and the previous/next controls
stay in fixed positions as slides change at the same window size.
No video files or video demonstration slides are included in this kit.
See CHANGES_1_5.txt and manual/VERSION_1_5.html for the new commands.

The kit is distributed as source code with the existing pinned dependencies:
Python 3.11 or later; pypdf 6.10.0, pypdfium2 5.14.0/PDFium and Pillow 12.3.0.
TeX is required to build from a TeX source, but not to convert an existing PDF.
Use VALIDATION_1_5.md for this release's checks and their scope. Earlier
validation files, including VALIDATION_PUBLICATION_1_4.txt, remain as history.
Third-party license texts are in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt and licenses/.

Start with START_HERE.html. Full manual: manual/index.html.
Short instructions: manual/FIRST_STEPS.txt.
All 194 example IDs, formulas and English explanations appear at the end of the manual.

WHAT THIS EDITION INCLUDES
The complete English sample lecture (47 slides, 135 minutes), English editor,
English presentation controls, English templates, English example picker and documentation.
The three interactive viewers retain their existing English/Japanese language option;
the English kit defaults to English. Example IDs and mathematical behavior are unchanged.

The sample's internal title is Intensive Lecture — Day 1, with the subtitle
Complex Analysis in Several Variables. Planned start: 14:55. Planned end: 17:10.
Blue theme, no speaker notes, no repeated lecture/system footer text.
Its final mathematical question compares strongly 1-complete / strongly 1-convex
and weakly 1-complete spaces. A zero-minute slide showing the English project
website follows it. The original 46 slides and their timing are retained.

SCVeamer 1.5 — English edition: first steps

1. Extract the entire ZIP into a new folder.
2. Have Python 3.11+ with Tkinter available. A LuaLaTeX/Beamer installation is required only for building from TeX, not for converting an existing PDF.
3. In the extracted kit folder, run:

     py scveamer.py

   Alternatively, double-click START_WINDOWS.cmd.
   If your environment uses python, run python scveamer.py instead.
4. The English sample opens automatically as an editable working copy.
5. Click First-time setup (install libraries) to prepare pypdf 6.10.0, pypdfium2 5.14.0 and Pillow 12.3.0 if needed.
   This needs internet access once and creates the kit's .venv.
6. Click Check environment. If TeX is not detected, select the folder containing
   lualatex.exe. Python and TeX themselves are not installed by the setup button.
7. Click Edit source, edit talk.tex in your usual editor, and save it.
8. Click Build HTML from TeX, wait for success, then Open HTML.
   Reload the browser if the presentation is already open.

The Working folder is your editing location, normally workspace/day1/.
You do not need to select or download a separate materials ZIP.

Choose Template v2 or New talk starter for other bundled examples.
Create a new project makes a fresh starter in a new empty folder.
Open my project folder resumes an existing project of your own.

Insert an interactive slide between ordinary frames:

  \exploreframe[lang=en]{sh}{std-b03}{Explore a harmonic saddle}

Arguments: {viewer type}{registered example ID}{slide title}.
The command creates a whole frame; do not wrap it in another frame.
The complete manual ends with all 194 IDs and a Copy TeX button for each.

The bundled presentations contain no videos and can each be shared as one
index.html file. Viewing requires no Python or TeX. Ordinary slides and the
included interactive figures work offline; the website slide needs internet
access. Presentations using your own MP4 files also need the adjacent video
folder, such as index_media/, when shared.
Use arrows or Space to advance, F2 to leave figure interaction, F to toggle
fullscreen, and the slide number to open the contents.

Full manual: manual/index.html (from the kit root).
Project and joint-development credits: CREDITS.html.

PLANNED END TIMES
In the preamble, after loading the theme:
  \scvstarttime{14:55}
At the start of each ordinary frame:
  \scvminutes{3}
For an interactive slide:
  \exploreframe[minutes=3,lang=en]{sh}{std-b02}{A cap and its circular averages}
Give every slide a duration. Overlays belong to that slide's duration.
Omit the start time to hide the schedule. This is a planned schedule, not a live timer.

WORKING FOLDERS AND MIGRATION
Normal working copies live inside this kit's workspace/.
The executable edition uses workspace/ beside the executable.
If this location is not writable, the fallback is
  HOME/SCVeamer/workspace/version-1.5-en/
The editor's Working folder field shows the actual location.
Settings are separate from the Japanese edition. Open an old project explicitly
with Open my project folder. Sources are not translated automatically.
Extract updates into separate folders; keep old working projects or back them up.
For pre-1.2 sources that need schedule commands, first copy the whole project,
then use the new starter/theme/holotalk-games.sty in that copy's theme/ folder.
Preserve customized themes. Explicitly request lang=ja for Japanese examples.

SOURCE AND SETTINGS
The sample's mathematical content, diagrams and durations are in talk.tex.
lecture-plan.json supplies short titles and observation prompts.
After adding, deleting or reordering slides, update its slide numbers too.
In presentation.json:
  "speaker_notes": false omits notes and disables speaker-guide generation.
  "show_brand" is retained for older settings but has no display effect in 1.5;
  the HTML toolbar no longer has a permanent title or system-name area.
In TeX, \renewcommand{\holofooter}{} clears the page-footer text.
Other projects can continue to use speaker notes.

WINDOWS LAUNCHERS
START_WINDOWS.cmd   Open the editor.
SETUP_WINDOWS.cmd Prepare the local Python environment and pinned PDF libraries.
BUILD.cmd Build the last valid project from TeX.
PDF_TO_HTML.cmd Build HTML from that project's existing PDF.
Example: BUILD.cmd --project "C:\work\my-lecture"
Saved TeX path, engine and supplementary-data settings are reused.
Explicit command-line options take priority. All launchers call scveamer.py.

EXECUTABLE PACKAGING
The manual explains building on Windows with PyInstaller and SCVeamer.spec.
The recipe is intended to package Python and the PDF libraries; TeX remains separate.
Executable build/run validation is not claimed for this release. The historical
Windows 11 report for 1.4 is recorded in VALIDATION_PUBLICATION_1_4.txt;
see VALIDATION_1_5.md for the checks actually performed for 1.5.
Keep the entire dist/SCVeamer/ directory, not just SCVeamer.exe.

BUILD ERRORS
Read the editor's error summary and .build/latest.log in the working folder.
Previous completed outputs are preserved on failure. Save logs before retrying,
because a new build overwrites the latest log.
VALIDATION.txt and VALIDATION_1_2.txt are historical records for the original
PyMuPDF edition. VALIDATION_PUBLICATION_1_4.txt records the earlier Windows 11
report. See VALIDATION_1_5.md for this release's checks and untested items;
earlier records do not establish validation of version 1.5.

RESEARCH AND JOINT DEVELOPMENT

A Beamer-style HTML slide editor for visualizing several complex variables
2026-11-06

RESEARCH PROJECT
Developing geometric intuition in several complex variables through AI-assisted visualization
Programme: MEXT — Supporting Pioneering Research through AI for 1,000 Discovery challenges (SPReAD)
Funding period: June 2026–January 2027
Principal investigator: Takayuki Koike, Institute of Pure and Applied Sciences, University of Tsukuba
Nickname: Project Holomorphonautica

Created as part of the project's work on visualization and geometric intuition
in complex analytic geometry and several complex variables.

JOINT DEVELOPMENT OF THE WHOLE SCVEAMER SYSTEM
Takayuki Koike, with:
  Kyoka Marui — Tohoku University
  Masakazu Takakura — Tokyo Metropolitan University
  Ryo Uchimoto — Kyushu University
This credit covers the three interactive visualizations, editor, conversion engine and slide player.

SHARED CONCEPTION OF THE GAMES
Discussions among Kyoka Marui, Masakazu Takakura, Ryo Uchimoto and Takayuki Koike
about what to observe and understand through 3D VR visualizations of complex
analytic geometry led to games for practicing visual observation.
Subharmonic?, Plurisubharmonic? and Ryokuinzu — Pseudoconvex? arose from that shared conception.
Existing in-game credits are retained.
