You need Python 3.11 or later; the graphical editor also requires Tkinter. To build from TeX source, use a TeX installation that can compile beamer. The included sample sources use LuaLaTeX. Converting an existing PDF to HTML does not require TeX.
These are source distribution kits in Japanese and English. They do not bundle Python, PDF-processing library binaries, or a Windows executable. Initial setup downloads the required libraries. See also the background and publication policy.
The editor, templates, sample slides and manual are included in English. Extract this kit into a separate folder if you already have an earlier version.

This installs pypdf, pypdfium2 and Pillow in a dedicated Python environment for the kit. An internet connection is needed for the initial installation.
On first launch, the toolkit prepares a working copy of the bundled sample. To build from TeX, choose “Edit source”, save your changes, then use “Build HTML from TeX” and “Open HTML”. If you already have a PDF, use the option to build HTML from that PDF. See the manual for setup details and how to insert examples.

Inspired by our three browser games, SCVeamer brings interactive observation into lectures and talks. It is part of Project Holomorphonautica, which explores visualization and geometric intuition in complex analytic geometry and several complex variables.
The system was jointly developed by Takayuki Koike and the three collaborators listed here, with design and implementation assistance from Chapio-kun (ChatGPT).
Our main fields are several complex variables and complex analytic geometry. We explore how graphics, including 3D and VR views, can help us develop mathematical intuition and understanding. What should we show, how should we show it, and what should the viewer observe? These questions have guided our work on visualizations and browser games.
When we wanted to present that work in talks, we faced a practical question: how could we connect our usual Beamer slides naturally with the interactive figures and games we wanted to demonstrate?
The idea was to display the PDF slides produced with Beamer in HTML and interleave them with figures and games that run in the browser. A conversion step would bring these elements together into one presentation, while retaining our usual authoring workflow. We discussed this idea with Chapio-kun and developed SCVeamer through repeated prototyping and refinement.
The change to PDF processing in version 1.4
The early versions of SCVeamer used PyMuPDF for PDF processing to bring Beamer slides together with browser-based figures and games. We are grateful to PyMuPDF and its contributors for supporting that initial implementation.
As we considered publishing the software and making it easier to reuse, we reviewed the licenses of its dependencies and our distribution arrangements. To clarify the terms for our own code and the external libraries, and to make our publication and distribution policy easier to explain, the version 1.4 prototype changes the PDF-processing backend to pypdf, pypdfium2/PDFium, and Pillow.
The images used for ordinary slides have changed from SVG to PNG. The implementation aims to preserve slide navigation, incremental display, game integration, and the other existing presentation controls, and we have carried out comparisons. The handout PDF retains pages from the original PDF as vector content. Please consult the included validation records for differences in image quality and file size, and for the scope of the checks performed.
The selected third-party software and its license notices are recorded in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt and licenses/. The formal license notice and scope for SCVeamer's own code will be established after consultation with the relevant parties, in accordance with the policy below.
We hope it leads to other people's ideas and improvements
We first made SCVeamer to help with our own research and talks. We would be happy if colleagues in our field found it useful, and if people in other fields adapted the approach to the objects they study and the ideas they want to communicate.
We would like it to become easier for anyone with an idea for a useful graphic to create it and include it in a talk, including at pure mathematics meetings. We hope such presentations will help people develop intuition and understanding.
With this in mind, we want to arrange publication in a way that makes it easier for users to improve and develop SCVeamer for their own research and teaching. We also hope that the ideas behind this work will inspire other tools and new ways of presenting mathematics.
Our current thinking about licensing
Publishing research results as software is also a new undertaking for us. Before establishing the formal license notice and its scope, we plan to confirm the relevant rights and other details with the appropriate university offices, our co-developers, and other people involved.
This statement explains the background to the software and our current intentions for its publication. It does not announce the formal application of the MIT License. Once the relevant matters have been confirmed, we will state the formal terms of use and their scope on the website and in the distribution.
External libraries and other materials supplied by third parties remain subject to their respective licenses and terms of use.
If you give a talk using SCVeamer, or publish a tool inspired by its approach, we would be happy if you briefly acknowledged Project Holomorphonautica and SCVeamer somewhere appropriate.
